My business has been using Manthorpe Slate for 10 years and we have never failed to get top class service, providing a top class product. Their knowledge of stone, attention to detail and care for us as customers is unparalleled; I cannot recommend them highly enough. Terry Tozer, The Kinross Stove & Cooker Centre Ltd.

After a few very helpful phonecalls with Hazel to help us decide which slate and finish would work best for us I ordered a 2 piece Brazilian Riven Hearth from Manthorpe Slate. It arrived at the agreed time last night (to the minute in fact), after removing the substantial wrapping I have to say it looked great. I spent the best part of today installing it and am incredibly pleased with the result. Thanks to everyone at Manthorpe Slate & Stone for a thoroughly pleasant experience and an exceptional product.

Well where do I begin..We were looking for a slate hearth and found these on the internet. My husband rang and spoke to a lady who was most helpful on the telephone; after going through what we wanted it was decided it would be best if we went to visit their showroom to get an exact idea (which wasnt too bad as they are only about an hour away from us) this we did the following morning. Well we arrived there and were escorted to the showroom (which is an old summer house in their back garden with very few samples) by an elderly man who again seemed very nice. Inside on the computer was another man who we found out was the son and after spending some time selling their business very well we managed to chose the product we wanted and placed our order (which the son had given us the price for.) We were told there was a 10 day lead time and that they only take Bank Transfer so as soon as we got home I made the payment. I got an invoice back via email confirming my payment and the collection date of 2 weeks to the date of us ordering. Based on this, as we are in the process of having a complete new fireplace, my husband booked a week off work to coincide with picking the hearth up, a builder was booked to complete the stonework around the fire and a decorator was booked to redecorate the chimney breast and surrounding area. All this was to coincide with a family function, so to have everything ready was paramount. We heard nothing during the first week so obviously assumed there were no issues, and then on the Thursday before we were due to collect the hearth I called to see if it would be ready on the Friday as my husband (who works nights) would have fetched it so to be able to have a full weekend on getting it in place. I was told by the lady on the telephone that it was Not quite ready as they had been very busy with New Orders that week but it would certainly be ready for us to collect on the Saturday. A bit miffed that they had put new orders ahead of ours but I said my thank yous and said we would see them on Saturday morning. Again I heard nothing until we were about 5 minutes away on the Saturday when I had a voicemail from the lady saying there was a problem with the hearth and could I ring her urgently. As we were almost there we carried on. When we got there the son was casually in the front of the garden pumping a car tyre up, I went over to him and he just very matter of fact told me that they hadnt even looked at our order until yesterday (Friday) afternoon when they realised they hadnt even ordered the correct slate in!! I was offered a cheaper substitute which he was prepared to make up there and then (so much for the 10 day lead time) of which I refused as it was not what we ordered. He did say that he had sent me an email the night before and when I checked yes he had but it was 19.36pm on a Friday night. He had not followed this up with a phone call / text or anything. He was not in the slightest bit sorry even though he said he was, he even said he had looked at some of the old slate he had round the back to see if he could make the order out of that but he didnt have enough. So after telling him I wanted my money back as at no point did he even offer to get the slate we chose within the next couple of days he reluctantly took my details to make the refund. He made me feel as though our order had never mattered, although having our money for 2 weeks was fine!!! He made me feel as though we shouldnt even have been there that morning it was as though we were intruding. This Family run business has cost us a wasted days labour charge from both our builder and decorator (of which I am now talking to a solicitor to recover our costs). My husband now has no more holidays to take before Christmas. The family function has had to be postponed due to us not having a working fireplace and we have had to source an alternative hearth, which to be fair is coming direct from a very nice Company in Wales who have been most helpful. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND NOR USE AGAIN MANTHORPE SLATE.

I picked up a wine bottle holder from these guys, made from slate off-cuts. The guys are very friendly, professional and offered advice on finishing and upkeep. My mum loves it, a great unique piece.

Very friendly service and they were very happy to cut the various stone to any size I needed for my sculpture bases. Always delivered according to estimate and good at communicating too! Have used them for many years and they have never let me down.
