Very interesting. Well worth a visit.
Beautiful gardens fabulous Country House Lovely tea rooms. Fantastic views and atmosphere. Very good cycle hire shop. To ride through the countryside and woods.
A charming country castle. The staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The castle tour has a guide in every room ready to answer any questions you have about the room. The trails surrounding the park are well maintained and abundant. The gardens are beautiful, you are allowed to pretty much walk anywhere on the grounds the only exception is area with livestock. The tea room has excellent cakes and scones.
Fantastic dayAmazing guides inside the castle, full of enthusiasm, with a wealth of historical knowledge and detail.Gardens were beautiful and peaceful, and the walks around the lake etc fantastic and we'll signed.Hugely recommend.
Last minute decision. Only lived 35 miles away for 17 years but never visited. However we had 2 for 1 tickets and decided to use it. Arrived about 12 noon to find a queue down the drive and some vehicles turning round, we persevered and reached the kiosk. 3 members of staff having a hectic time trying to keep traffic moving- a rethink necessary for busy days. Having parked we made our way to a very clean and tidy courtyard and had drinks and a cake dispensed by very Friendly staff. Then on to the Castle only called such because it has crenellations. There is a watch tower from the 13c, a Tudor house built without foundations and then a frontage which was supposed to be the start of a complete rebuild but never finished because of the death of both the 3rd Duke and the architect. However the inside of the house was fantastic and well worth the 13 entry which also covered a garden visit. The gardens are vast and well worth a visit in themselves but unfortunately the summer of 2018 has not helped the lawns and flowered displays. On the day we visited there was also a garden event all covered in the entrance price, something for everyone. We finished off with another drink in the court yard and then came home. Well worth the visit and will go again.
